The NEW STUDENT Inc.program's mission is to produce productive members of society through education because it is a passport to fully participate socially, economically, politically in our society; those without the passport are unable to participate and face the prospect of being a permanent member of the underclass. NEW S.T.U.D.E.N.T INC AFTER SCHOOL also will ensure the Middle Georgia's youth have access to high quality, affordable after school and summer learning programs. Too often, our middle school and high school youth are left with too few opportunities at a time when community relationships and career exploration become more central to their development. |

In Georgia, 21% of K-12 youth are responsible for taking care of themselves. More than 31% of K-12 youth in self-care would be likely to participate in an after school program if one were available in the community. Approximately 80% of children’s waking hours occur of the school. Results from studies conducted over the past five years indicate that the time the youth spend during non school hours can have a tremendous impact on their lives. The youth the are left home alone for long periods of time, may also experience varying degrees of loneliness, boredom, fear, use of drugs and alcohol, and suffer poor academic achievement.
